Official World Record – A Decade of Record Breaking Worldwide

Official World Record reaches its first 10 years of existence with thousands of registered trademarks. The Spanish entity competes with Guinness in the accreditation of records of extreme sportsmen.

Ten years ago, in Vic, Barcelona, a group of Catalan businessmen asked themselves how to give visibility to some brands that, due to the lack of resources, were not in any official register. It was this interrogate that led them to create an NGO that aimed to accredit brands in all disciplines and that had a social and cultural value. To finance these records, other individuals, entities and companies would need to be encouraged to register their trademarks with this entity. Thus Official World Record was born. Today, it is the second most important organization in the world to do so.

A decade later, Official World Record competes with Guinness in accrediting extreme sports challenges around the globe. More and more athletes are choosing this option so that their milestones can be passed on to posterity.

The last, the world’s most sought-after kitesurfer, Portugal’s Nuno Figueiredo, the only man capable of riding a 19-metre wave on Nazaré beach in northern Portugal, wants his 2017 record to be certified by the Official World Record, although he is already accredited by Guinness. Official World Record is recognized by Council of Notaries of the European Union and the entity that sponsors it is registered in the Intellectual Property Office of the european institutions. Any record to be accepted requires going through your International Acceptance Committee. Official World Record works with organisations of the world, as South Korea, for accredit the records and will soon be opening a delegation in China.
