Labor Union Members Come Together with Their Employer in a Riveting Collaboration
Labor Union members and their employer, a venture capitalist, came together and brought their company out of bankruptcy leading to a successful venture.

A trucking company was brought out of bankruptcy by working alongside their employer, a venture capitalist. With heavy collaborative efforts, together they were able to bring the company to massive success,  a multi-million dollar business. With the expertise of their venture capitalist leader and of the tenured workers in the industry, the mid-sized company was able to rise to the occasion and overcome supply chain issues and the other unique problems that were brought on by the demands of well-known retailers.

Through a one of a kind partnership, these former adversaries will share their success story of combatting the supply chain issues and create a model for other trucking companies.

Headquartered in Rancho Dominguez, California, Total Transportation Services, Inc (TTSI) is a national transportation services and logistics solutions including drayage, short-haul, and brokerage services.  TTSI provides coast-to-coast coverage near all the most active trade hubs and ports. They also help to protect the truckers who are employed by the union. This protection includes financial protection in their investments in their trucks, as well as providing the support that the truckers need so basic rules are enforced, regarding personal safety while traveling.

Jonathan Rosenthal, the CEO of Saybrook Management says, “Profitability in the supply chain is all about productivity, and productivity is largely about having a collaborative workforce that is responsive to our customers. In order to achieve this, both labor and management dug deep to move beyond traditional biases in order to understand one another’s perspectives. We reached common ground that ultimately benefited the company, the workers, and the customers.”

Eric Tate, the Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 848, adds, “Because of TTSI’s ultimate willingness to work with, not against, the Teamsters, we were able to collaborate with the company to get through bankruptcy and become profitable because we saw the obvious – that without a healthy employer, there would be no jobs. At the same time, the employer recognized that if the drivers’ wages and benefits were not sufficient, then no one would want to haul imported cargo for the company. It was a win-win situation that we encourage every employer to adopt.”

TTSI locations across North America provide flexible, secure, sustainable, and state of the art drayage, over-the-road, brokerage, and warehousing. Their customers deal with one company and one voice – from the routine to the exceptional.
