Dr. Peter Salerno Offers a Heartfelt Manual for Firefighters in His Two-Time Award-Winning Book

April 28 22:27 2022
‘Fit for Off-Duty’ discusses healing from work-related trauma, restoring personal relationships and thriving at home.

Dr. Peter Salerno’s healing book for firefighters, “Fit for Off-Duty,” is a two-time Firebird Book Award Winner in the categories of psychiatry/psychology and self-help. It discusses how every firefighter has been through traumatic events, and even seasoned firefighters may be unaware that they have gone through trauma.

In “Fit for Off-Duty,” Dr. Salerno shares that constant exposure to traumatic experiences takes a toll. The body, the nervous system and the firefighter’s personal relationships are all affected. Off-duty days might become a source of anxiety rather than delight. However, this does not have to be the case. A short-term therapy procedure can include feeling fit, healthy and free of the symptoms of trauma. There are also steps that firefighters can take right now on their own. This book is an excellent place to begin.

“Fit for Off-Duty” is a thorough guidebook for healing from trauma exposure for individuals who serve in the fire department and those who love them, authored by a trauma therapist from a firefighter family.

Dr. Salerno is a trauma specialist who utilizes evidence-based, attachment-oriented approaches to promote healing and self-empowerment. He is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) and is certified in Family Trauma and Complex Trauma through the International Association of Trauma Professionals.

Dr. Salerno is certified in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). He also holds a certification in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and is trained to administer and score the Hare Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R). He works with individuals of all ages, couples, and families in private practice.
